Biography

English novelist, essayist, and journalist (born Eric Arthur Blair) whose works 1984 and Animal Farm are the defining literary warnings against totalitarianism. His prose style — clear, direct, honest — embodied the values he championed. He fought in the Spanish Civil War, worked as an imperial policeman in Burma, and died of tuberculosis at 46.
