Biography

American writer, essayist, and public intellectual, one of the great literary provocateurs of the twentieth century. His novels, essays, plays, and screenplays span a vast range, from historical fiction (Burr, Lincoln) to memoir (Point to Point Navigation). He was known for his aristocratic wit, political iconoclasm, and famous feuds with Norman Mailer and William F. Buckley Jr.
